It looks like AMD will once again beat Intel in the processor game by releasing a dual core 64 bit Turion X2 laptop CPU on May 9th, well ahead of Intel’s 64 bit dual core Merom mobile processor slated for the end of the year. Both companies are preparing for high-end 64 bit computing which will be supported in Windows Vista, scheduled for the 2nd half of the year. AMD will release 7 models of the Turion 64 mobile processor initially, with clock speeds from 1.6 GHz and 512 KB of L2 cache to a higher end 2.2 GHz model with an improved 2 MB L2 cache. The combination of 64 bit dual core processors and Windows Vista’s advanced graphic features with DirectX 10 support will no doubt, take notebook gaming to another level - stay tuned!
