Intel has quietly released a Core 2 Duo mobile processor for notebook computers, giving new buyers quite a choice - Intel Core Solo, Intel Pentium M, Intel Core Duo or Intel Core 2 Duo? AnandTech took a closer look at the new mobile CPU, and did a head-on comparison between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo to determine if there was a major difference in performance and battery life. In the end, they found the performance to be only minimally better in the Core 2 Duo, especially in 3D rendering, and that notebook gamers can expect a 5-15% improvement if the GPU wasn’t a bottleneck. There was also no major improvements in battery life, which prompted them to advise existing Core Duo owners against upgrading.
