Intel Centrino Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa is Intel’s new Centrino upgrade for notebooks, and will be be released in 2H of 2007. It will feature several new innovations, and will be known as Centrino Duo in consumer notebooks and Centrino Pro for business systems.

Most of the new features are designed to improve both performance and battery life:

1. Core Performance
- a faster 800 MHz FSB to shuttle data to/from the memory subsystem.
- dynamic FSB switching, i.e. lower speeds for light tasks, to conserve battery life.
- turn-off inactive core and increase speed in active core for single-threaded apps.
- NAND memory on motherboard to improve boot-up times and app responsiveness.

2. Graphic Performance
- Intel 965 chipset featuring GMA X3100 shared graphics card.
- GMA X3100 supports DirectX 10 and is similar to the Xenos chip in Xbox 360.
- HDMI output with HDCP compliance.
- Intel Clear Video technology for smoother and sharper HD videos.
- more color and contrast settings.

3. Wireless Performance
- draft 802.11n (300Mbps) in addition to 802.11b (11Mbps) and 802.11g (54Mbps).
- new Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965AGN card uses less power than previous wifi cards.
- support for MIMO (3 diversity antennas) for much wider coverage.
